Tanlin Jingshe

Tanlin Jingshe is sequestered deep within a bamboo forest. The envi-ronment is heavily saturated with natural, serene, and comfortable ele-ments befitting a paradise-like hermitage secluded in the mountains as depicted in traditional Shanshui ink paintings. Visitors can view the won-drous beauty of the setting sun from this location. Such a refreshing and elegant environment can hardly be described with mere words. Con-struction for this fine abode was commissioned by Master Shangwen Siahui in 1992, and completed in late December, 1997. In 2003, given the fact that the lodge lacks adequate space during prayer gatherings, construction was initiated for the main hall and additional dormitories for the priests. Completed in 2008, such an expansion ensures that this ho-ly site in Guanmiao District is able to offer a serene seclusion from the bustle of everyday life.
Precise descriptions of the location:
☆Tanlin Jingshe is located at Shuicyuan Gou (water spring canal), a con-fluence where three mountain brooks come together. Bamboo forests surround the entire abode to create a sylvan environment. Tanlin Jingshe is located to the south of Wanglai Forest of Guanmiao District. Even amidst the heat of July, visitors driving along the country road will be basked in a refreshing and comfortable atmosphere.
☆Tanlin Jingshe is built according to Tang Dynasty architecture. The gateway, flanked by majestic walls decorated with lily blossoms, is one of the key features of the lodge. A lotus pond is located at the side. The first floor of the Main Hall is Dasiong Baodian (the main hall of a bud-dhist temple) while the second floor would be Guanyin Dian (Ava-lokiteśvara Buddha's hall). The merit wall to the north of the main hall houses the 32 incarnations of the Avalokiteśvara Buddha crafted with porcelain, making it another unique feature of Taiwanese Buddhist lodg-es.
☆Communal meditation is held every Sunday. Cianfo Fahui (thousand Buddha ceremony), Zen meditation, Lianghuang Fahui (ceremony for the Liang Emperor), Yufo Fahui (Buddha washing ceremony), Jiesia Anju (Vassa ceremony), Dizang Fahui (Kṣitigarbha ceremony), and Ba-guan Jhai (Eight Precepts fast) are held regularly every year as well.
☆Children's summer camps, group studies, autumn excursions of fellow practitioners, and end-of-year celebrations and other activities are held annually as well.
